The Siem Reap Fortnightly Club
Tuesday November 4, 2008 was the inaugural meeting of what is hoped to be a bi-weekly gathering of teachers in Siem Reap (and surrounding area) to share learning resources, teaching strategies and, put simply, chat openly about our successes and challenges in our respective schools. With over 20 attendees from a wide range of different education related groups in the area, the energy in the room could be described as ambitious and optimistic, as many participants felt either their organization or they personally could provide meaningful contributions. The wide range of attendees, I believe, will be the greatest strength of the group, as each organization came to the table with different resources and expertise, as well as areas for improvement – all the better when it comes to sharing.
Of the 20 attendees in the room, three were from PEPY and each of us took the time to meet the other attendees and open a dialogue. We concluded the night with new meetings scheduled between our NGO and other groups, and took the lead in organizing the next Fortnightly Club event. Stay tuned for the next update in two weeks!
